Army Forward Operating BaseThe LOGISTICS 2020 team was tasked with the responsibility to build and sustain an Iraq-like forward operating base at North Fort Hood, Texas for military reserve component units to conduct pre-deployment immersion training in preparation for duty in Iraq.

We designed and constructed the FOB to replicate the conditions that soldiers would face in their day-to-day operational and living environment while deployed in Iraq. General purpose tents outfitted with AC units, bunks, cots, and sleeping bags were procured and set up. During the training, soldiers received instruction on patrolling, perimeter defense, personal and vehicle searches, and training specific to the current improvised explosive device (IED) threat so prevalent in Iraq. While supporting this effort we had over 10,000 reservists receive training at this facility.

In the course of a year, this important mission was twice affected by acts of nature. Within 30 days of construction of the FOB, a Texas twister flattened the FOB. Within 72 hours our team re-erected 50 24-man tents and the support infrastructure with no loss of time to the mission. Upon the approach of Hurricane Rita, our personnel took precautionary measures and disassembled the camp and moved troops to safe living areas. The camp was reconstructed within 48 hours with no adverse impact to the training mission.
